The romance is realistic, touching and uplifting. The cast are superb, led by Brian Donlevy who was in my opinion one of the best character actors on the screen. I also find Ella Raines to be an immensely appealing actor and her portrayal of the tragically widowed but feisty Marsha is a treat. But it is Charles Coburn, as usual, playing the crafty Lt. Quincy  who steals the show.
