Great intro to the serial, full of cheesy lines and fight scenes.

May not be the best of movies but I have fond childhood memories of going to the movies every Saturday just to see the latest installment of this serial in the early 60's. Probably what started my lifelong interest in Science Fiction. Now if we could just get "The Shadow".

Modern viewers may recognize this as the serial being mocked for much of the first season of MST3K. Unfortunately (fortunately?), Joel & the Bots only got through the first eight episodes it (and part of the ninth) before giving up. It's pretty cheesy and stereotypical, but then again that's part of the charm of these Republic serials. It's no Flash Gordon (also available on this site), but as an introduction to the not-so-subtle art form of the Saturday-afternoon cliffhanger serial, you could do far, far worse than to follow the exploits of Commando Cody through these twelve chapters of schlocky fun.
