Firstly, this has nothing to do with Monte Cristo. The supposed connection is just a cheap hook. Secondly, this is possible the laziest, most unoriginal film I have ever seen. It simply lifts ideas from other films - from Zorro to The Prisoner of Zenda. The plot is just mindless twaddle, the acting is insipid and to top it all of it has George Sanders playing the only role he ever plays: George Sanders. I normally enjoy B-graders, even when they lack refinement but this movie is plain annoying. It's simply a collection of cliches strung together as a backdrop for the idiotic antics of a cast whose acting abilities go all the way from A to B.
